Chapter 178:

The elevator doors opened on the first floor, and the family exited. Kristopher remained, still facing her in the

spose.

After a moment, his voice, rough with emotion, broke the silence. “Belinda.”

He frowned, struggling with his words, then finally voiced the thought that had haunted him since the

miscarriage. “We can have another baby in the future.”

Belinda gazed at him, bewildered, unable to believe the words that had just escaped his lips. Could she have

misunderstood? How could Kristopher say such a thing?

The shock in her eyes made him furrow his brow. Straightening up, Kristopher turned and exited the elevator.

“Forget | said anything.”

He had noticed the sorrow in her eyes earlier when the family discussed the baby. Her sadness had moved him,

evoking sympathy for the child they had lost. Yet, the look of disbelief on her face quickly snapped him out of it.

He had to be out of his mind to try and comfort her with those words!

As the elevator doors began to close, Belinda snapped out of her daze and hurried after Kristopher. They walked

side by side from the elevator to the hospital entrance, enveloped in silence.

Trailing behind him, Belinda observed the once captivating tall figure of the man before her, now with a trace of

coldness in her expression. She began to piece together what Kristopher had implied back in the elevator. It was

the family’s conversation about the baby that had touched him. He had thought of the child they had lost and

had wanted to offer the consolations any caring husband would.

If he were a caring husband, it would be reasonable to say those words. But he had never shown concern for this

baby. Even on the day of the miscarriage, he was with Cathy. What right did he have to speak those words to

her?

After leaving the hospital, they made their way to a restaurant across the street and settled in. The waiter

approached their table and handed the menu to Kristopher. Without thinking, Kristopher passed the menu to

Belinda as he always did when they dined together.

Belinda, who was well-versed in his preferences, usually took care of the ordering. He simply enjoyed the meal

and handled the bill. However, this time, Belinda didn’t accept the menu. Her attention was fixed on her phone,

her fingers swiftly navigating through messages from Madisyn and Fred. With a nonchalant tone, she ordered, “A

coffee and a sandwich for me, and two to go, please.”

Kristopher, menu still in hand, paused mid-gesture. She was only ordering for herself? Puzzled and slightly

annoyed, he asked, “What about my order?”

Belinda glanced up from her phone, rolled her eyes, and retorted, “Why don’t you order for yourself for once?”

As she tapped on a voice message, Fred's youthful, resonant voice filled the air. “Belinda, I've pulled off a big

favor for you. How are you going to thank me?”

Smiling, Belinda pressed the record button to send a voice message. “It really depends on what you're in the

mood for, I...”

“I'll have what she’s having.”

Her words were abruptly cut off by Kristopher’s voice, louder and more forceful than necessary. She furrowed her

brows and shot him a glare. He had to be doing this on purpose!

She had intended to delete the recording and start over for Fred. However, her finger slipped, and the message

was sent by accident. She quickly retracted it and started typing a message to Fred.
