Chapter 22:
Belinda cast a fleeting glance at Maggie. “Did Kristopher fail to mention our divorce?”
Maggie's eyes widened in disbelief. “Wait, you mean you two are going to get a divorce?”
Maggie recalled how Rosie had not only taken up all her tbut also pressured her into an extravagant
shopping spree that cost her a small fortune.
Fuming silently, Maggie had been waiting for the right moment to confront Belinda, armed with a barrage of
cutting remarks.
However, she hadn't anticipated Belinda’s bombshell. She intended to divorce her brother.
“Yes, I've sent Kristopher multiple drafts of the divorce papers, yet he refuses to sign them,” Belinda scoffed,
giving Maggie a scornful look. “Instead of wasting your thumiliating me, why don’t you convince your
beloved brother to finalize the divorce soon? | have no desire to remain Mrs. Cox.”
With that, Belinda turned away, not sparing Maggie another glance, and walked into the hotel.
Maggie watched her leave, momentarily stunned, then hastily grabbed her phone to call Rosie.
“Mom, | just ran into Belinda, and guess what? She’s been trying to get a divorce from my brother for a long
time. It’s him who's delaying!”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAt that moment, on the other end of the line, Rosie was just leaving the nail salon with Cathy's mother, Evelyn
Miller, chatting excitedly about the upcoming birthday party.
As Maggie’s words hung in the air, Rosie scoffed. “Seriously? You're really falling for her nonsense? Everyone's
aware of how much disdain Kristopher holds for her. Would he really stick by her side? Had Kristopher not been
incapacitated in a coma at the time, she wouldn't have had the chance to lead this kind of life! Before she
bechis wife, she was merely a country girl. After their marriage, she suddenly morphed into a poised and
polished society lady. Do you honestly believe she would let go of being Mrs. Cox that easily?”
“You have a point.”

Maggie scowled, a bit upset. “I just caught Kristopher and Cathy entering together, all sweet and cozy. How could
he be attached to Belinda and not be filing for divorce?”
Belinda’s lies had nearly deceived her!
Rosie’s anger flared further when Maggie brought up Cathy. “If it weren't for that brazen woman meddling, Cathy
would have been my daughter-in-law by now. Just look at this chaos...”
Her agitation grew with every word. “This evening, I'm taking matters into my own hands and pushing for the
divorce! Cathy has been waiting for three years. | refuse to make her wait any longer!”
Rosie abruptly ended the phone call in a huff.
“Calm down, Rosie,” Evelyn soothed, sitting close enough to have caught every word of Rosie’s heated exchange
with Maggie.
Although a part of Evelyn felt a secret satisfaction, she maintained a composed expression. “Tonight, we're
celebrating Anthony's birthday. Let's not spoil it. Cathy has been patient for years; she can hold on a little
longer.”
Rosie scoffed dismissively. “Absolutely not. Cathy has endured too much already!”
“Belinda!”
Upon entering the banquet hall, Belinda barely took a few steps before a resonant, eager voice reached her from
across the room.
She turned reflexively to its source.
Darren, looking dapper in a crisp suit, was striding toward her, his face lit up with a grin. “What a surprise to see
you here!”
Momentarily taken aback, Belinda managed a smile. “Darren, what brings you here?”
Closing the distance, Darren explained, “Our company’s teamed up with Cox Group, and my boss had us draw
lots to see who'd calong tonight.”
Scratching his head with a sheepish grin, he added, “You know my usual luck.”
His eyes twinkled as he looked at Belinda. “And what about you? Are you here on business for your company
too?”
