Chapter 245:

“Miss Miller...” A compassionate store clerk could no longer hold back and whispered, “Actually... It was the

gentleman who asked the lady to pick out a dress. She didn’t ask for anything herself. She...”

Before the clerk could finish her sentence, another employee quickly clamped a hand over her mouth, silencing

her.

A heavy silence filled the room. Cathy looked up at Kristopher with wide eyes, her surprise evident. “Kristopher,

did you... Did you really suggest buying Miss Nelson a dress?”

Kristopher gave a slight nod, his face betraying no emotion. “Yes, she’s going to be there tomorrow.”

Cathy was visibly shocked. Kristopher had never told her that Belinda would be attending, too!

Cathy paused, then seemed to grasp Kristopher’'s motive. Having Belinda at their engagement party was

probably his way of ensuring she moved on, while simultaneously demonstrating his devotion to Cathy. But why

choose such a dress for Belinda?

She, the bride-to-be, would be in a simple white dress, while Belinda was to wear a striking red gown adorned

with rubies. Wouldn't that steal her spotlight?

“Miss Nelson in red... Isn't that somewhat inappropriate?” Cathy suggested, her brows knitting together.

“Is it inappropriate?” Belinda smiled. “I think it’s perfectly appropriate.”

Belinda understood exactly what Cathy meant. Cathy must feel it was inappropriate for Kristopher’s ex-wife to

wear something so striking when the bride herself would be in white.

However, Belinda was determined to stand out.

If Kristopher was going to insist on her attendance, she planned to outshine the bride.

She was ready to make a statement at their engagement party, all thanks to Kristopher’s invitation.

“That's enough.” Kristopher felt a headache coming on. He turned to the clerk who had spoken up for Belinda.

“I'll take the dresses they're trying on. Please ring them up.”

The clerk’s eyes lit up with surprise and appreciation. “Thank you, Mr. Cox! I'll handle it right away!”

She quickly headed to the register, her colleagues eyeing her with jealousy.

Once Kristopher had spoken, Cathy and Maggie had no choice but to stop giving Belinda a hard time.

They sullenly made their way to the fitting room to change.

“Thank you so much, Mr. Cox,” Belinda said sarcastically, then turned elegantly, lifting her skirt slightly as she

walked to the fitting room.

Moments later, Maggie stood next to Cathy, watching Belinda collect the stylish bag from the clerk. She rolled

her eyes. “Cathy, if we had known that women would shamelessly choose the priciest dress, you should have

tried it on first!”

Then, an idea popped into her head. “I'll get Belinda to take off that dress so you can try it. It might look even

better on you!”

“Forget it, Maggie,” Cathy cut her off with a scowl. “That color is too loud for me.”

Her comment made Kristopher furrow his brow. “Cathy, you... Don’t you like red?”
