Chapter 289:

“He has a mild concussion,” Kayden informed her, carrying a medical kit as he emerged from the bedroom. His

gaze dropped as he cleaned his hands with a sanitizing wipe. “There’s only one wound, the one you treated. It

might be infected from the beach sand, so he’s running a fever. He's taken smedication. The fever should

break by tomorrow morning.”

He paused briefly before adding, “But he’s been delirious, likely due to exhaustion rather than just the

concussion. He hasn't really rested well lately.”

Discarding the used wipe, Kayden looked up at Belinda, his expression detached. “Has he been overwhelmed

with work at the company?” Kristopher had been severely sleep-deprived for the last few days.

“I'm not sure,” Belinda responded with a furrowed brow. “We're divorced.”

Kayden stopped, seeming to recall that fact suddenly. “Right, | shouldn't have asked you. I'll check with Cathy.”

With a slight sigh, he gave Belinda a lingering look. “I thought you two were close. What changed so abruptly?”

Belinda’s response was a wry smile. “You're mistaken. We were never really connected.”

Hearing this, Kayden raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Really?” he asked.

He recalled a moment from two and a half years ago when Kristopher had retained only him and Renee from

among all the doctors, expressing his deep appreciation for Belinda’s dedicated care. He had promised to look

after her well from then on.

Despite having served as Kristopher’s family doctor for the past two years, Kayden had always maintained

professional boundaries and never inquired into Kristopher’s personal affairs. However, he hadn't anticipated

that Belinda would claim there were no feelings between them.

“Yes,” she affirmed.

Taking a deep breath, Belinda decided she didn’t want to discuss this matter with Kayden any longer. “I'll see

you out,” she offered.

“No, thanks,” Kayden declined with a wave of his hand. “His fever hasn't subsided yet. You should take good care

of him.”

He paused, feeling his advice might have been too forward, and added, “Or perhaps you could call Cathy to look

after him.”

Belinda glanced at the distant wall clock. It was already half-past midnight.

With a bitter smile, she replied, “Forget it.”

She knew that if Cathy found out she was still with Kristopher at this hour, it would only complicate matters

further.

Without another word, Kayden turned and left.

The villa’s door was shut. Belinda, surrounded by the tranquil atmosphere of the villa, inhaled deeply before

making her way to the master bedroom.

Inside, Kristopher lay still, his pallor ghostly, eyes shut, mumbling a single nrepeatedly. “Cathy...”

A crease formed on Belinda’s brow as she battled the rising tide of her emotions. She perched on the edge of the

bed and, pulling out her phone, started scrolling through the news. It was much like she had done three years

earlier, right after their wedding.

Her findings echoed Fred's earlier words.

Online, rumors swirled about a car accident involving a man and a woman fleeing the scene. Accounts varied.

Sclaimed the pair had perished, others insisted they were hospitalized but gravely injured.
