Chapter 30:

Kristopher’s expression darkened.

“Anthony.”

As Anthony was about to speak, Belinda approached with a serene smile. “You haven't cut your birthday cake

yet.”

She gestured towards a group of children in the corner. “Your grandkids are eager. Let's not keep them waiting.”

Anthony followed her gesture, noticing the children’s anticipation.

“That's right, Dad,” Carol added, attempting to diffuse the situation. “We shouldn't discuss our issues here, in

front of everyone.”

Ignoring Carol, Anthony looked at Belinda with concern. “Belinda, how much longer can you bear this? You have

my sympathy!”

Belinda maintained her gentle smile. “Today is about celebration, not grievances.”

Anthony studied her smile, then exhaled deeply. “Out of respect for you, I'll drop it for today.”

He shot a stern look at Kristopher. “Con. Get up here and cut the cake.”

“Kristopher, you should go,” Cathy urged quietly, her lips quivering.

Kristopher eyed Maggie and Helen near Cathy. “Look after her for me.”

“Don’t worry,” Maggie announced cheerfully. “I'll take excellent care of my future sister-in-law!”

“Maggie, stop that nonsense,” Cathy admonished, her cheeks reddening as she covered Maggie's mouth. “Don’t

make people misunderstand...”

Observing all this, Anthony glanced at Belinda, who was busy arranging the cake knives, pretending not to notice

the tension.

With another sigh, Anthony chose to remain silent.

Soon, Kristopher returned to the stage to help Anthony and Belinda with the cake-cutting.

Although the room buzzed with renewed activity, the undercurrents of within the Cox family were

palpable to all.

“Thank you,” Kristopher murmured to Belinda as they passed out slices of cake.

Belinda shot him an icy glance, her expression unreadable. “Anthony is getting on in years. We should make

things easier for him. He can get to know Miss Miller after our divorce. There's no hurry.”

She lifted her chin and resumed her task of serving the cake with poise.

Kristopher watched her glide away in her yellow dress and high heels, a sense of emptiness gnawing at him. Her

eyes were unsettlingly serene.

Previously, Belinda had maintained a composed exterior in public to protect his reputation, yet she often lost her

composure in private. Now, her gaze held nothing but indifference, stripped of any former warmth or passion,

regardless of the setting.

Once the cake was served, the banquet officially started.

Cathy's earlier antics had caused Anthony to keep a close watch on Belinda during dinner, instructing Kristopher

to load her plate with her favorite dishes. Kristopher obliged.

Before long, Belinda’s plate was brimming with food.

“Is he feeding a pig?” Maggie scoffed under her breath, rolling her eyes.

Rosie, who was sitting nearby, chuckled. “Remember, she’s still getting over a miscarriage...”

Belinda coughed loudly in an attempt to drown out Rosie’s comment. She didn’t want such news to overshadow

Anthony's joyful occasion.

But it was too late. Anthony caught the remark.

“Miscarriage?”

His eyes snapped towards Rosie. “Who had a miscarriage?”
