Chapter 55:
The sleek white Audi cut through the road, its speed making the outside world a blur. Belinda was silent, her
thoughts deep, as she watched the landscape fly past her window.
“Belinda.”
The driver, Darren, broke the lengthy silence, his brow furrowed with concern. “You were adamant about
divorcing Kristopher and cutting ties with the entire Cox family, weren't you? So why...”
He trailed off, leaving the question hanging in the air, but Belinda caught his drift. He was puzzled as to why she
had returned to the Cox estate barely a day after vowing to distance herself forever.
She faced him, offering a small, knowing smile. “Anthony turned in early last night; he missed the announcement
of my divorce and the uproar with the Cox family. This morning, when he learned about it, he wantedto
cover and explain everything.”
She took a deep breath before adding, “Anthony has always treatedkindly. Even if | end my marriage to
Kristopher, | still hold great respect for him.”
Darren’s smirk carried a touch of scorn. “Clearly, Anthony is decent to you. He may be a kind old soul, but his kin
certainly don’t share his virtues.”
Belinda pressed her lips together, choosing to stay quiet.

comments about Kristopher. “Belinda, when Anthony called you back to the estate to explain things, he must
have called Kristopher too, right?”
Belinda’s frown deepened, and she nodded. “Yes, the whole Cox family was there.”
“The whole Cox family...” Darren repeated, his voice dripping with scorn. “Didn’t they think about how hard it
would be for you to find transportation from such a remote area?”
He continued, his disdain evident, “When I left the hospital, Kristopher was with you. You chere with him,
didn’t you? He brought you here but didn’t think about how you'd get back to the city without a car, especially in
your condition?”

He turned to face Belinda, his expression serious. “If Cathy had been with him instead of you, do you think he'd
have forgotten that she might need a ride back to the city? Can you really still have feelings for such an
asshole?”
Each of Darren’s words hit Belinda like a heavy blow, worsening the ache in her already broken heart. She turned
her gaze to the scenery flashing by outside the window, her voice soft and distant. “I lost my feelings for him a
long tago.”
“Good,” Darren said, his tone lightening as he exhaled in relief. “Once the divorce is final, Madisyn and | will
throw a big celebration for you. You can’t keep living like this.”
“Darren...”
Belinda frowned, turning to face Darren with a serious expression. “What did Madisyn tell you when she asked
you to pickup?”
Caught off guard by the question, Darren hesitated briefly before responding honestly. “She mentioned she was
tied up and neededto fill in for her.”
“But it’s work hours now. You have your own responsibilities, don’t you?”
Belinda took a deep breath and fixed her gaze on Darren. “Look, Darren, | value your kindness, but let's
remember we're just friends. It really isn’t necessary for you to leave work to helpout. Besides, my personal
life, especially my marriage to Kristopher, is my own affair. I'd prefer you not to make remarks about it in the
future.”
Darren stood silent, momentarily stunned by her directness. Eventually, Belinda turned away to gaze out the
window. “Even if | end up divorcing, I'm not looking to jump into another relationship for a good while. | think it’s
best we maintain sdistance.” Previously, Belinda had held back because she respected Darren's intentions,
but his remarks just now had overstepped.
Darren’s complexion grew pale as he remained quiet. After a long silence, he sighed deeply. “I'm sorry. But,
Belinda, my being here wasn’t purely personal. It didn’t disrupt my work.” He stopped the car and handed her a
document. “Part of my job today actually involved coming to see you.”
