Chapter 79:

“Ugh, they're everywhere, so annoying!” Madisyn grumbled as she slid behind the wheel of her car after leaving

the restaurant. She slammed the door shut and let out an angry sigh.

Belinda, resting against the passenger seat, looked out into the distance thoughtfully. “This spot is really popular.

It’s only natural for people to gather here,” she remarked.

Madisyn scoffed, irritation clear in her tone. “But do they have to be glued together like that, constantly holding

hands? It’s disgusting!”

Outside, the evening had brought life to the streets, now aglow under the warm lights of newly lit streetlamps.

Couples walked by, their fingers intertwined.

Belinda watched them, a gentle smile playing on her lips. “They're in love. It's natural for them to want to stay

close,” she explained softly.

Madisyn frowned, turning towards Belinda with a mix of confusion and surprise. “How can you be so composed

about this?”

Belinda’s voice remained even, detached as though discussing strangers rather than her own husband and the

other woman.

“I've moved past it.” She turned to Madisyn, her smile bright and seemingly untroubled. “They’re probably

gearing up for their engagement next week. Kristopher reserved the venue and ordered the cake a month ago.”

Madisyn stared at her, eyes wide in shock.

After a moment, she swore under her breath, “Damn it! So Kristopher was plotting to propose to Cathy while she

was still overseas? He's been wanting a divorce for ages, hasn't he?”

Belinda exhaled, a weight lifting from her chest. “Yes. He made up his mind a long tago.”

A month earlier, Kristopher had been busy planning his engagement ceremony with Cathy.

At the stime, Belinda had been overjoyed at the news of her pregnancy. She had been consulting with

doctors tirelessly, seeking ways to ensure the well-being of their child given her deteriorating health.

How naive she had been!

While she joyfully prepared for their future child, Kristopher was orchestrating a lavish proposal for his new love.

“Belinda, I'm so relieved you've moved on!” Madisyn broke the ensuing silence, gripping Belinda’s hand tightly.

“It would be excruciating otherwise!”

Belinda turned towards her friend and offered a weary smile. “Yes, I've moved on.”

Her heart had been broken too many times, and her dreams dashed just as often.

Now, she felt nothing but numbness, no longer caring about the past.

After pausing, she inhaled deeply. “Takehome, please.”

Madisyn nodded, quickly withdrawing her hand to start the car. “Alright, let’s forget those two awful people and

head home. Remember, Fluffy’s waiting for you!”

Belinda offered a faint smile, choosing to remain silent for the rest of the ride.

Soon, they pulled up in front of Belinda’s rental home.

Madisyn didn’t leave immediately after dropping Belinda off. Instead, she went into the room with Belinda and

stayed a bit longer under the guise of playing with the cat, all the while keeping an eye on Belinda’s state.

Convinced that Belinda seemed fine and unaffected by her earlier encounter with Kristopher and Cathy, Madisyn

finally relaxed and left. But what she didn’t realize was...

As soon as the door shut behind her, the smile on Belinda's face vanished.

A second later, she gripped her chest, contorting in agony on the couch.

Her cat, Fluffy, sensed something was amiss and nudged her repeatedly, trying to offer comfort.

Back at the restaurant, Belinda had forced herself to eat sspicy beef to maintain composure in front of

Kristopher and Cathy. It was only two pieces. She thought it wouldn't be much of an issue. However, she hadn't

anticipated the severe stomach pain that followed.

It felt like it might be the end for her.

Gripped by unbearable pain and blurred vision, Belinda instinctively pressed the emergency contact button on

her phone and dialed a number...
