Chapter 86:

Belinda hung her head, a sharp pain gnawing at her heart as if it were being sliced by a knife.

She had nearly met her end the previous night.

Weakness had claimed her voice, rendering her speechless. To any stranger on the other end of the line, it would

have been clear that something terrible had transpired, especially in the middle of the night.

However, Kristopher, the man she had adored for five years and called her husband for three, seemed merely

annoyed by her call.

This thought made her smile with bitterness.

It was no surprise then that after ending the call, Kristopher had persistently tried to reach her.

Lying on the floor last night, the sound of her ringing phone had initially given her a sliver of hope. She thought

perhaps Kristopher was calling back out of concern, wondering what had happened to her. But now, reflecting on

it, she realized he might have just been irritated that she had interrupted his dinner with Cathy, perhaps even

planning to scold her.

“Miss Nelson!” The voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

The door to the ward swung open, and Marlene entered briskly with several interns trailing behind her. “How are

you feeling now?”

Seeing the doctor, Darren stepped back respectfully and inquired, “Dr. Reid, is she able to eat now? | could go

grab sbreakfast for her.”

“Not yet.”

Marlene frowned and looked at him. “You could go out and grab sbreakfast on your own. We need to run

stests on Miss Nelson, and it's not really convenient for you to be hanging around in here.”

Darren nodded in agreement and replied, “I'm off then, Belinda.” With that, he turned and exited the room.

“Mr. Wright is such a gentleman.”

Once the door closed behind him, Marlene turned to Belinda, a playful smile dancing on her lips. “Where on

earth did you find such a gem?”

“He's just a senior from my college days, not my boyfriend,” Belinda clarified, her expression slightly tense.

“So he’s not your boyfriend yet, huh?”

Marlene gave her a mischievous wink and leaned in as if about to share a secret. “You should have seen how

worried he was about you last night! Aside from the tI sent him to your apartment to grab your medical

notes, he spent the entire night waiting outside the emergency room!”

Belinda shifted uncomfortably, eager to steer the conversation away from the subject. She looked up at Marlene

and asked, “What actually happened tolast night? Was it serious?”

“It was bad enough that you passed out. Don’t you remember any of the pain?”

Hearing her words, Marlene fixed her with a stern look. “Aren't you aware of your condition? How can you even

think of eating spicy food? If you continue like this, you won't survive the next three months!”

She then lowered her eyes back to her notes. “Thankfully, the medicine you wanted to give another patient

yesterday afternoon was still available. Otherwise, with the urgency last night, we wouldn't have had tto

procure more for you!”

Belinda’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Medicine from that patient yesterday afternoon?”

“Yes,” Marlene replied with a sigh. “It was meant for a patient who got agitated yesterday. You agreed to sell one

dose to her. Everything was set, but when she arrived, she refused it and left, leaving the medicine untouched.

We had planned to return it to storage today and save it for your next treatment. But then your emergency

occurred last night, and it was fortunate we could use it.”

Marlene scratched her head and continued, “But that patient's situation is a bit more complicated... Her lawyer

might want to meet and discuss a potential partnership with you in the coming days. If you two strike a deal, not

only will she not need your medicine, but she’ll also supply you with various new treatments for stomach cancer

from overseas.”
