Chapter 88:

Belinda drew a deep breath, trying to steady her frail, raspy voice.

“Belinda Nelson.”

Before she could continue, Kristopher’s irate tone sliced through the silence on the other end of the phone. “I'm

outside the courthouse right now. Where are you?”

At the sound of his stern voice, a sharp pain jabbed at Belinda’s stomach once again.

She pressed one hand to her chest and gripped the phone with the other, doing her best to sound unaffected.

“I'm not well. I'm at the hospital.”

Kristopher scoffed dismissively. “Not well?”

Just the previous night, she had enjoyed a spicy meal with Madisyn, returned hwith Darren, and even found

tto call and bother him. And now, she claimed to be unwell?

With her lip caught between her teeth, Belinda gripped the phone tighter. “I—"

Just then, the hospital room door swung open.

Darren entered, carrying a cup of steaming milk after his breakfast. “Belinda, the milk from the café downstairs

is excellent, so | thought I'd bring you some...”

Before Darren could finish his sentence, Kristopher’s cold, detached voice interrupted. “So, you're unwell

because you're with Darren?”

Belinda’s grip on her lip intensified. “No,”

“You were the one who wanted a divorce, and | agreed,” Kristopher snapped, cutting her off. “I've canceled all

my morning appointments to meet you at the court, and here you are, ditchingfor him?”

Seated in his Maserati outside the courthouse, Kristopher’s eyes narrowed ominously. “Belinda, | gave you an

opportunity. We're done discussing the divorce.”

After hanging up the phone, he shot a cold glance at the driver. “Takeback to the office.”

Marc, seated in the front, hesitated. “Sir, are we leaving just like this? Shouldn't we wait a little longer for Miss

Nelson?”

Kristopher shifted his icy stare to Marc, his chilling demeanor filling the car. “Miss Nelson?”

Feeling the frostiness intensify, Marc recoiled slightly and quickly corrected himself. “I mean, shouldn't we wait a

bit longer for Mrs. Cox?”

Kristopher leaned back into the leather seat, closing his eyes and letting out a relieved sigh. However, within

moments, his brow furrowed again in deep thought. He recalled that Darren had left Belinda’s apartment just

after eleven the previous night. Now, at only nine in the morning, they were together again. Could they truly be

that inseparable?

With this thought nagging at him, he opened his eyes and instructed the driver once more. “Turn around. Let's

go to Belinda’s place.”

At the hospital, Darren noticed Belinda’s pale complexion and hesitantly set the milk down. “Belinda, did | say

something wrong?”

Belinda furrowed her brow and shook her head. “It’s not on you.” The call from Kristopher had been nothing but

an attempt to pick a fight. Even if Darren had remained silent, Kristopher would have still found a reason to be

upset.

“How could it not be your fault?” Danilo, observing from the doorway, interjected with pursed lips. “She was

explaining to her ex-husband why she missed their appointment at the court to finalize their divorce. When he

heard your voice in the background, he instantly called off the divorce.”

He shot Darren a frosty look. “That was a bit careless. Now, she’s stuck without a divorce, and you've lost your

chance.”

Darren’s expression grew somber. “Belinda, were you supposed to meet Kristopher to finalize the divorce

today?”

Belinda nodded in response.

“Is there still tto make it?” Darren asked, his brow furrowed with worry as he hurried to help Belinda collect

her belongings. “I'll drive you there right now!”
