Chapter 112: The Alpha’s Pursuit
(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
After a brief chat, | put down my glass and picked up my phone. The noise from the reception was
overwhelming, so | stepped into the corridor to answer the call.
“Alpha,” Amber Stone’s voice cthrough clearly. I have an update on Elena’s location.”
My grip tightened on the phone. “Tell me,”
“She’s not at Riverstone Medical Center,” Amber reported. “They confirmed she withdrew her application half a
month prior. The hospital believed she stayed at her original workplace.”
My jaw clenched. Elena had been more careful than | anticipated.
“Search every healing facility in Riverside City, | ordered. “Leave no stone unturned.”
“What if she’s not in any medical center?” Amber asked hesitantly
| paused, considering the possibility. “I'll think about it later.”
| hung up and lit a cigarette, gazing into the distance through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The city lights blurred
as my thoughts consumed me.
Where could Elena be hiding? She was too skilled a healer to abandon medicine entirely

The next day, | treated a meningitis patient at the Riverside Administrative Medical Center. The moonligh herb
treatment had failed to control the abscess, so | quickly arranged surgery for drainage.
Two hours later, | emerged from the surgical chamber, exhaustion weighing on my shoulders. The family waited
anxiously in the corridor.

“The surgery went well,” | informed them. “The drainage was successful, and we expect a full recovery.”
Relief flooded their faces as they thankedrepeatedly.

Adrian Whitmore was chatting with Dr. Hugo Ashworth near the healer’s station. “You have a young and beautiful
chief healer here,” Adrian joked.
Dr. Ashworth glanced atand nodded. “Indeed.”
He left without another word, his usual abrupt manner unchanged.
| was reviewing patient charts when my phone buzzed. Dr. Jane Porter had sent a message confirming our
weekend plans, complete with a cheerful emoji.
As | typed my reply, Dr. Ashworth suddenly appeared beside me.
“What's your relationship with Nathan Sterling?” he asked without preamble.
| looked up, surprised by the question. “We're just ordinary academy alumni. Why do you ask?”
His intense gaze studied my face. I'm curious whether Nathan Sterling was the reason for your severed mate

bond.”
“No,” | replied firmly. “Nathan had nothing to do with my mating situation.”
Dr. Ashworth nodded and left, leavingpuzzled by his sudden Interest in my personal life.
Leaving the steel ascent elevator, | spotted a familiar figure in the lobby. Amber Stone stood near the reception
desk, her sharp eyes scanning the area.
My heart raced. | quickly turned away and headed for the healing facility's back entrance.
Why was Amber Stone here? Had Marcus sent her to find me?
But why would Marcus look for me? | had made my intentions clear.
Just as | reached the back exit, a black Bentley pulled up in front of me. The rear window rolled down, revealing
Marcus Blackwood's stern face.
My face changed instantly. Without thinking, | turned and ran.
“Elenal” Marcus called out, getting out of the car
His long strides caught up toquickly. His hand grabbed my arm, stopping my escape.
“Letgo!” | struggled against his grip.
“Elena, we need to talk,” Marcus said firmly.
“Let her go!” Adrian Whitmore’'s voice rang out as he appeared from the medical center entrance.
Marcus's eyes flashed with anger. Without warning, he threw a punch at Adrian.
Adrian staggered backward, blood trickling from his split lip.
“Adrian!” | pushed Marcus away and rushed to help Adrian. “Are you okay?”
The sight of Adrian’s blood ignited my fury. | turned and slapped Marcus across the face.
“Marcus Blackwood, enough is enough!” | shouted.
Adrian wiped the blood from his mouth, his amber eyes blazing with contempt. “I despise Alphas who force
their mates”
“This is none of your business, Marcus retorted coldly.
“Any decent werewolf would intervene when witnessing such controlling behavior, Adrian shot back.
Amber Stone arrived with several elite guards, their presence immediately commanding attention.
“Luna, Amber addressedformally.
Adrian's eyes widened in shock. “Luna? | thought you had severed the mate bond.”
“Marcus Blackwood is my former mate,” | clarified firmly.
“I haven't agreed to sever the mate bond,” Marcus declared.
My voice turned bitter. “Our mating has long been dead. Accepting your mark was my biggest regret.”
As | tried to leave with Adrian, Marcus stepped in front of us.
“I know everything,” he said quietly.

| laughed harshly. “Why do you only suspect Sophia Rivers now? It’s too late, Marcus.”
My voice grew stronger with each word. “You defended her for years while my family suffered. Your realization
comes only after everything was destroyed”
Marcus tried to approach me, but | backed away.
“Please,” | begged. “Just leavealone.”
| walked away with Adrian, my legs trembling with exhaustion and emotion.
“It’s okay to suffer a little,” Adrian said gently, supporting my elbow
After we had walked a considerable distance, he asked, “Is Marcus Blackwood really your former mate?”
“Yes,” | affirmed. “I regret the early mating, but I'm glad I finally realized my mistake.”
(Dr. Hugo Ashworth’s POV)
After parting with Elena, Adrian cto my office. | Immediately noticed the injury on his face.
“What happened to you?” | asked, looking up from my medical journals.
*Elena’s former mate showed up, Adrian explained, touching his split lip. “We had a confrontation.”
| frowned. “Former mate? They're not officially separated. The mate bond hasn't been severed.”
Adrian's eyes narrowed suspiciously. “You seem very interested in Elena’s personal affairs. Are you secretly
attracted to her?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” | denied quickly.
Then why do you know so much about her mating status?” Adrian pressed.
| closed my book with a snap. “I'm moving today. My new apartment is ready.”
