Chapter 116: Confronting the Past
(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
Elena clenched her fists and suddenly let out a laugh. “But there are conditions, right?”
My action of adjusting my suit jacket paused. | frowned. “What if | say there aren't?”
Elena retorted, “Do you think Id believe you?”
| chuckled. “Then if | say there are, will you agree?”
Seeing her avoidance and desire to get away from me, my eyes filled with forbearance as | took her slightly cold
hand. “You see, you wouldn't agree either, so why bother asking? | said there are no conditions, and that’s final.
You can choose not to believe me.”
Elena pulled her hand away. “What's the meaning behind your actions, Marcus?”
Her voice carried exhaustion and wariness. The distance between us felt like an insurmountable chasm. “Marcus,
haven't you been ignoringjust fine all these years? And when you were standing up for Sophia and her son,
indulging them, you didn’t think about the present, did you?”
My face stiffened for a moment before | replied, “Elena, | owe you, and | will make it up to you.”
Her eyes reddened again. “Do | care about your compensation? Can your compensation back to life?”
Elena’s emotions suddenly collapsed. She began to beat my chest with her fists.

“All | want is to sever our mate bond, why won't you letgo! Do you think I'm not miserable enough, not
pathetic enough? Is this punishment forinsisting on becoming your Luna back then, for driving away your
beloved, still not enough for you!”
She screamed, “Then just rejectcompletely, Marcus, why don’t you just reject me!”

| stood still, letting her vent her anger. Each blow against my chest felt like nothing compared to the pain in her
voice.
However, | soon realized something was wrong when Elena lost control of her emotions and began struggling to
breathe. Her face turned pale, and her hands clutched at her throat.
I quickly supported her, calling her nin alarm through our mate bond. “Elena! Elena, breathe!”
Trembling and in distress, Elena was swept into my arms. | rushed out, calling for medical staff.
“Help! | need a healer now!”
In the emergency healing bay of Shadowpeak Rehabilitation Center, a healer gave Elena oxygen therapy. The
steady hiss of the oxygen mask filled the sterile room.
Afterward, the healer approachedwith a grave expression. “I suggest you take Elena to see a pack
therapist.”
“What's wrong with her?” | demanded.

“I suspect Luna Elena is showing signs of severe emotional disturbance. If this continues, there’s a risk of her
harming others or herself.”
The word “harming” struck a chord in me. | remembered the tshe had lunged at Sophia with a silver letter
opener. | had pushed Sophia away, taking the blow myself, knowing | wouldn't press charges.
But | couldn't guarantee others would do the same.
After a long pause outside her room,
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
called my Beta. “Amber Stone, | need you here immediately.”
Amber Stone was sent to escorthome.
| decided to play a game.
| realized Marcus's true intention was to find out my address.
| directed Amber to the residential ex where | lived. On the way, | contacted Hugo Ashworth and asked
“I need a favor,” | said quietly into the phone. “Can you giveyour door code?”
“Why?” Hugo's voice was suspicious.
“I'll explain later. Please, just trust me.”
Upon arriving at the correct floor, instead of going to my own apartment, | walked to Hugo's door and entered
the code. The door clicked open, revealing Hugo, who was taking off an apron.
He quickly assessed the situation, glancing fromto the bewildered Amber behind me. Playing along
perfectly, he asked with the casual intimacy of a close friend, “You're only just getting back?”
The implication shattered Amber's composure. | turned to her and asked, “Beta Stone, wo for dinner?”

When Amber stammered a refusal, she reminded me, “Luna, you... your mate bond isn’t severed yet.”
Hugo interjected coolly, “So I'm the other ar
| then delivered the final blow. “He can have an emotional affair during our mating, so why can’t I? Even if it
wasn't physical, it was spiritual. What do you call an Alpha who protects his ‘first love’ at the expense of his own
Luna?”
Amber was left speechless.
(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
After Amber left, | waited in my suite for her report. The silence stretched endlessly.
When she finally returned, Amber reluctantly reported that Elena was cohabiting with Hugo Ashworth. A long,
chilling silence filled the room before I, my face obscured by shadows, demanded in a low, dangerous voice,
“You're certain it was Hugo Ashworth?”
“Yes, Alpha. She entered his apartment with a key code. They seemed... intimate.”
| gave her until the next day to gather more information. “Find out everything about their relationship.
The following day, Elena, acknowledging her own emotional instability, visited a private supernatural therapy
clinic. Dr. Jonathan Pierce diagnosed her with a “specific stress reaction” and mild depression.
“Your aggressive impulse is a targeted response to extrprovocation from a specific individual, he explained,
prescribing smoonlight herb sedatives.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
Later that day, | was shocked to find Marcus waiting forin a consultation room, having specifically requested
my healing services. As | tried to leave, he suddenly embracedfrom behind.
His voice was low and desperate by my ear. “Elena, don't fall in love with anyone else.”
Stunned, | struggled to process his words. “Marcus, what right do you have to tellwho | can or cannot
love?”
My heart trembled despite my defiant words.
“Did you ever love me?” he asked, turningto face him. His golden eyes pleaded for an answer. “Elena, | just
want to know, did you ever love me? Why did you accept our mating back then?”
| avoided his gaze, reminding him that he already knew the reason.
“If it was for the status of Luna, for the power of the Shadow Moon Pack, you wouldn’t be asking to sever our
bond, would you?” he pressed.
He caressed my face, confessing, “I admit | didn’t consider your feelings back then... But Elena, | never ignored
you. From the first night | scented you, | knew | couldn't. I just couldn't accept that Sophia had left me, and |
thought my heart still belonged to her. | was afraid that developing feelings for you would be a betrayal to her.”

My eyes welled with tears, but | held them back. “Yes, it was my insistence that forced you to accept our mating.
It's the biggest regret of my life. For that, | don’t blyou. The grievances | s self-inflicted.”
| paused, my voice hardening with renewed pain. “But after Sophia cback, you blamedfor everything
she did. | was forced to endure so much injustice, and you even said that since | took her place, | should have to
endure her presence, didn’t you?”
