Chapter 65: Threats and Revelations
Chapter 65: Threats and Revelations
(Rachel Thompson's POV)
Iran all the way downstairs, my legs still weak from fear and shock. The conversation | had overheard in Sophia
Rivers’ office echoed in my mind like a nightmare.
Director Sophia was actually the culprit who had harmed Healer Elena’s younger brother! The revelation hit me
like a physical blow, making my chest tight with panic.
| hesitated in the Institute Corridor, caught between my conscience and the potential danger to myself. My hands
trembled as | pulled out my phone, Elena’s contact information glowing on the screen.
Should | tell her what | knew? The weight of this secret felt crushing, but the fear of Sophia’s retaliation made my
fingers freeze over the dial button.
Just as | raised my phone to call Elena’s number, swift footsteps approached from behind. Before | could react,
Sophia Rivers appeared with werewolf reflexes, snatching the phone from my hand.
“Going somewhere with that phone, Rachel?” Sophia's voice was deceptively calm, but her eyes burned with
dangerous intensity.
My heart hammered against my ribs as | faced her. The corridor suddenly felt suffocating, the fluorescent lights
too bright and harsh.
“... 1 was just...” | stammered, unable to form coherent words under her piercing stare.
Sophia smiled coldly, examining my phone with casual Interest. “Were you planning to tell Elena Blackwood
everything you overheard in my office?”
| remained silent, terrified by her intimidating presence. My throat felt dry as sandpaper, and | couldn't trust
my voice not to betray my fear.
“Smart girl, staying quiet,” Sophia said, returning the phone to my trembling hands. “But letgive you some
advice about surviving in this healing institute.”
She stepped closer, her voice dropping to a whisper that sent chills down my spine. “Without pack connections,
one must learn to be oblivious to certain matters. Do you understand what I'm saying?”
I nodded frantically, clutching my phone like a lifeline.
+“Good.” Sophia’s smile widened, but it never reached her eyes. “Now tell me, what exactly can Elena offer
you?
A recommendation letter? A small bonus?”
She laughed softly, the sound making my skin crawl. 1, on the other hand, am likely to stay around this Institute
for a very long time. Someone who might not even return here... well, that’s not a very wise

investment, is it?”
The implications of her words hitlike ice water. Elena-was planning to leave the institute, while Sophia held
significant power here.
“Think carefully about your choices, Rachel, Sophia continued, her tone becoming almost motherly. “Help
someone who can actually protect your career, not someone who'll be gone tomorrow.”

Sophia patted my shoulder with false gentleness, her fingers lingering just long enough to feel threatening. ”
trust you'll weigh the pros and cons carefully before making any... hasty decisions.
With that, she turned and walked away, her heels clicking confidently against the corridor floor. Her satisfied
smirk was the last thing | saw before she disappeared around the corner.
I slumped against the corridor wall, overwhelmed by the threat and the harsh reality of pack politics. Sophia’s
Intimidating words echoed in my mind, each syllable a reminder of how powerless | truly was.
My phone felt heavy in my hands, Elena’s contact information still displayed on the screen. But now, the thought
of calling her filledwith terror rather than determination.
(Elena’s POV)
Meanwhile, at the Moonhaven Estate Great Hall, Victoria Blackwood'’s sharp voice cut through the morning air
like a blade. Obviously, she had clearly seen the trending searches about Nathan Sterling and me. “Catherine,
take the other staff and leave us,” Victoria commanded, her tone brooking no argument. Catherine Hayes bowed
respectfully and quickly ushered the remaining estate workers out of the hall. The heavy doors closed with a
definitive thud, leaving us alone.
Victoria's eyes blazed with fury as she turned to face me. “Even in a hidden mating, you should be discreet
enough to avoid embarrassing the Blackwood family name!”
Her
voice rose with each word, echoing off the high ceilings. “Do you have any idea what people are saying about my
son’s mate being photographed with another Alpha?”
| started to apologize automatically. Tm sorry, I-
Then | caught myself, straightening my shoulders. “Actually, there won't be a next time.”
Victoria's face flushed with anger at my correction. “Your attitude is exactly what's wrong here! You've upset
Margaret Blackwood, and she’ll blme for failing to control my son’s mate!”
Just then, Marcus Blackwood entered the Great Hall, his golden eyes immediately assessing the tense
atmosphere. “Mother, why are you so angry?”
| frowned at his unexpected arrival. He was supposed to be at the Blackwood Consortium by now.
Victoria whirled on her
provoking me!”
1 with equal fury. “Don’t think you're in this! You two are deliberately
Marcus dismissed her concerns with a wave of his hand. “The media reports mean nothing. I'm not angry about
it, so you shouldn't be either.”
Before | could react, Marcus stepped forward and pulledinto his embrace. His strong arms wrapped around
| stiffened in his arms, trying to push him away. “Marcus, what are you-"
But Marcus held firm with his Alpha strength, his grip unyielding. “We're leaving, Mother.”
Victoria watched us with knowing eyes before returning to her seat. She poured herself tea with deliberate calm,
her anger shifting to calculation.
“I only care about avoiding Margaret Blackwood’s reprimand,” she said curtly. “Do whatever you want.”

Marcus kept his arm around my shoulders as he guidedtoward the door. “Then we'll take our leave.”
Victoria dismissed us with a wave of her hand, but | caught the uncertainty in her expression. She was clearly
puzzled by her son’s behavior toward me. Actually, I'm the same.
The moment we stepped out into the Moonhaven Estate Courtyard, | pulled away from Marcus's embrace. The
sudden loss of his warmth made the morning air feel colder against my skin.
Marcus's golden eyes intensified as he observed my reaction, “Elena-"
“If you needto act in front of your family elders, please giveadvance notice, | interrupted, my voice
steady despite my racing heart. “I want to avoid misunderstandings about our relationship.”
| turned to leave, but Marcus grabbed my wrist with his enhanced werewolf strength. His fingers wrapped around
my arm like steel bands, pullingback toward him.
“Do you want to avoid misunderstandings?” he asked, his voice dangerously quiet.
| attempted to free my hand, but his Alpha grip was unbreakable. “Don’t you remember your own words? You
once askedto keep my distance to avoid misunderstandings.”
Marcus frowned, and | could see him recalling his previous statement. His grip loosened slightly, but he didn’t
releasecompletely.
“You have a very clear memory,” he acknowledged, his tone unreadable.
| smiled faintly, meeting his gaze directly. “While you might have forgotten, | haven't. It's better for us to remain
detached as before.”
| paused, then added with deliberate politeness, Thank you for removing the trending search. But as my mate, it
was your duty. | owe you nothing.”
With that, | walked away without waiting for his response. | didn’t care what he was thinking about.
(Patricia Blackthorne’s POV)
Richard and | cback hfrom the hospital, exhausted from another day of worrying about David. But as
we approached our neighborhood, I noticed the strange looks from our pack neighbors.
Their expressions were filled with obvious gossip, and they whispered among themselves while staring at us.
“Hey, Richard, you're back?” A pack member running a roadside stall called out directly. “Hey, | heard that your
daughter is a mistress for a rich Alpha, is it true?”
Our faces changed when we heard this accusation. Richard's face turned red with anger as he stepped
forward.
“Nonsense! Who is spreading these rumors?” Richard shouted, his voice cracking with emotion.
More gossiping pack members gathered around us, their voices growing louder and more intrusive. The crowd
seemed to feed off our distress, their curiosity turning cruel.
“Who is
is talking nonsense here!” Richard continued, his hands shaking with rage. “My daughter is not a
mistress!”
| stepped beside my mate, defending Elena against the pack’s whispers. “These are lies! Our daughter would

But the damage was already done. The crowd dispersed slowly, their satisfied expressions showing they had
gotten the reaction they wanted
Back home, Richard was so depressed he couldn't even drink water. His shoulders sagged with defeat, and his
face had gone pale with exhaustion
| took chilled cut fruit from the refrigerator and placed it on the table. “Richard, they're just pack rumors. Don’t
care too much about what they say.”
Richard’s mentality was about to collapse completely. “It’s really one disaster after another! There hasn't been a
peaceful day since our son’s accident!”
His voice broke on the last words, and | could see tears threatening to spill from his eyes. The stress of David's
condition and now these rumors about Elena were destroying him.
Suddenly, a message popped up on the phone lying on the table. The notification sound made us both jump
in the tense silence.
| picked up the phone and read the message aloud: “If you want to know who spread the rumors about your
daughter being a mistress, cto this address.”
