Chapter 71: The Severing of Bonds

Chapter 71: The Severing of Bonds

(Elena’s POV)

“Then I have no choice but to file for bond severance through the Northern Territory Council,” | stated firmly. my

voice cutting through the tension in my healing chamber.

Marcus's golden eyes narrowed dangerously. “On what grounds? Infidelity? The alleged illegitimate pup?”

His tone carried that familiar mocking edge that always set my teeth on edge. | could see him trying to

provokeinto an emotional response.

| remained calm, my hands folded neatly on the desk, “Our mating lacks love. There's no point in continuing

this charade.”

Through the glass door, | caught sight of Sophia Rivers hovering in the corridor. Her face was pressed close to

the window, clearly eavesdropping on our conversation.

A cold smile curved my lips as | looked directly at Marcus. “Are you reluctant to sever our bond? Could it be that

you've fallen in love with me?”

Marcus's jaw tightened at my taunting tone. “Your fake smile is disgusting. Elena.”

“You only deserve hypocrisy.” | retorted without missing a beat.

| raised my voice deliberately, ensuring Sophia could hear every word. “Sophia, since you're already listening.

why don’t you cin?”

The door opened slowly, and Sophia entered with feigned innocence. Her expression was carefully crafted to

appear humble and apologetic.

“I wanted to congratulate you on returning to the institute,” she said sweetly. “But | didn’t want to interrupt

your conversation.”

| leaned back in my chair, my smile turning predatory. “We're discussing bond severance. Perhaps you could

offer sadvice?”

Marcus's voice carried a warning. “Elena.”

| ignored him completely, my gaze fixed on Sophia. “After all, if there's nothing between you and Marcus, why

would | be rumored to be the third party in your relationship?”

Sophia’s mask slipped slightly. Tnever intended for Oliver's accident to happen-

The sound of my palm connecting with her cheek echoed through the chamber. Sophia stumbled backward,

her hand flying to her reddening face.

“Feel better after venting your anger?” Marcus asked, his tone unreadable.

| tilted my head, studying his expression. “If | said it wasn’t enough, would you allowto continue hitting

her?”

Sophia instinctively retreated behind Marcus, her eyes wide with fear “Marcus, help me!”

“Leave,” Marcus commanded without looking at her.

Sophia shota venomous glare before hurrying out of the chamber The door closed with a soft click

behind her.

Marcus turned back to me, his expression serious. “I give you the truth you want. But targeting Sophia at

the institute is unnecessary”

“I returned to the Institute specifically to deal with her, I replied coolly

“s that necessary?” His voice carried genuine confusion.

| stood up, moving to the window. “Your family isn’t involved in this mess. You wouldn't understand”

Tm busy,” | dismissed him with a wave of my hand “Please leave”

Marcus studiedfor a long moment, his golden eyes unreadable. Then he turned and walked out without

another word.

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the Shadowmere Private Healing Sanctuary as | made my way

to David's recovery chamber. My brother lay motionless in the hospital bed, machines monitoring his vital

signs.

After checking on David, | went to find Dorothea Whitmore and Adrian Whitmore. They were in the family waiting

area, Dorothea playing with her comfort doll.

“Sweetheart!” Dorothea’s face lit up when she saw me. “You cto see me!”

Adrian looked up from his tablet. “You've been busy lately.”

My chest tightened as | prepared to share the news. “My father passed away.”

Adrian's expression immediately softened. “I'm sorry for your loss, Elena.”

| took a deep breath, gathering my courage. “I need to ask for your help. | need your people to watch over

David until the end of the month.”

“When | transfer him to Riverstone Medical Center,” | continued. “I considered asking Nathan Sterling, but the

Sterling family isn’t strong enough to confront Marcus.”

The weight of my request hung heavy in the air. “I’m already owing Nathan too many favors. You're the most

suitable person | can trust”

Adrian didn’t hesitate. “Of course. Benjamin!”

Benjamin Hayes appeared immediately, his glasses reflecting the fluorescent lights. “Yes, Young Master

Whitmore?”

“Arrange four guards for Elena’s brother,” Adrian instructed. “Benjamin will handle the details.”

| was stunned by his immediate agreement. “You're willing to help so readily?”

Dorothea looked up from her doll, having caught her nin our conversation. “What about me? Are you

talking about me?”

She held up the comfort doll, which was now dressed in a tiny pink outfit. “Look, Sweetheart! | dressed her

up. Isn’t she beautiful?”

“She's lovely,” | said warmly, genuinely touched by her childlike pride.

Dorothea beamed. “Sweetheart is the most beautiful because she was born by me.”

Chapter 71 The Seveng

Benjamin led four Whitmore Pack Guards to David's ward, positioning them outside before entering with me. The

guards were professional, their presence both reassuring and intimidating

“You

and your brother don’t look alike,” Benjamin observed, adjusting his glasses.

“Im adopted,” | explained simply.

Benjamin nodded with understanding. “You want to protect him. Someone's targeting him?”

“Yes,” | confirmed. “I can only trust Adrian’s people.”

(Elena’s POV)

The next morning, several territorial government vehicles arrived at the Northern Territory Central Healing

Institute. The black cars with official plates created quite a stir among the staff.

The neurosurgery department was buzzing with activity. Senior healers hurried through the corridors, their faces

tense with anticipation.

| had barely arrived when | was summoned to the Medical Conference Chamber. The room was packed with

institute staff, two visiting Neurological Specialists, and a distinguished man in a government suit.

Director Henry Baker stood at the head of the table. This is Elena Blackwood, one of our finest healers. | believe

she could attempt the surgery.”

| nodded respectfully to the government official. “Deputy Minister Harrison.”

Deputy Minister Harrison's eyes narrowed as he studied my face. “Director Baker, are you being dishonest? This

healer looks far too young for such a complex procedure.”
