12.41 Chapter 363 The sudden darkness left Charlotte frozen in place. She was still in her evening gown, with nowhere to keep her phone. She remembered Judd had been right beside her and called out, "Professor Carstairs?" Judd flicked on his phone's flashlight. “Looks like the breakers tripped. Stay here-I'll go check it out.” She felt her way to the sofa and sat down, nodding. "Alright." Charlotte stayed in the living room. Her eyes quickly adjusted, and the faint glow from outside filtered in through the windows. She becaware of someone approaching. “Professor Carstairs? Is that you?" No answer.

Just as she started to stand, a strong arm yanked her into a tight embrace. Before she could react, lips pressed hard against hers.

Her mind went blank. She struggled instinctively, but the man's grip was relentless, his possessiveness overwhelming and disturbingly familiar.

"Evander-" Charlotte managed to gasp the nwhen she finally broke free of the kiss.

He paused, clearly startled, but didn't answer.

She reached up, trying to remove his mask, but he pinned her closer, his breath warm against her ear as he spoke in a low, hoarse voice. "You wanted to seethis badly?" It really was him.

Charlotte shoved at his chest, but just then, voices echoed from outside-Judd and Wesley.

"Lottie, are you in there?" "She's here." The lights snapped back on. Wesley pushed open the door and found 1/3 12:41 Chapter 363 Charlotte standing awkwardly in the middle of the room.

She turned. There was no one behind her.

"Lottie? Are you alright?" Wesley stepped closer, noting the distress on her face-and that her lipstick was smudged.

She took a steadying breath. "I'm fine... Just-what happened to the lights?" Judd looked at her. "Someone flipped the main breaker, but fortunately, nothing worse happened." Charlotte dropped her gaze. Someone deliberately cut the power...

Could it have been him? "Tonight was supposed to be your welcdinner. I'm sorry things went off the rails," Wesley said, guilt heavy on his face.

She rushed to reassure him. "Don't say that, Wes. Honestly, just being with family makeshappy." He paused, then smiled, relieved.

If Dad were here, he'd be glad to hear that too.

The dinner wrapped up around ten. Once the last guest had left, Charlotte headed to the hospital with Wesley and Judd to see Loretta.

Loretta had been resting since getting her injection. Sean and a security guard were talking in the hallway but turned when the three arrived.

Charlotte hadn't even changed out of her dress; she had Wesley's coat draped over her shoulders.

"What brings you all here? The dinner's over already?" Sean asked.

"It is." Wesley glanced toward the hospital room. "How is she?" "She's stable-should be discharged tomorrow," Sean replied, then added, "About the snake-I've got the security team looking into it." Wesley frowned. “No need. I already know who did it." 2/3 12:41 Chapter 363 Sean stared, shocked. "Who?" Charlotte looked at him, waiting.

Wesley pushed open the door. Loretta was awake and flinched at the sound, her eyes unable to meet his. "Who gave you that snake?" Wesley's tone was sharp as he confronted Loretta.

Sean looked at her in disbelief. "It was you?" Loretta's shoulders hunched. She stared at the floor, unable to meet his gaze.

"If you won't tell us, I'll have to let the police handle it," Wesley said, m reaching for e his phone.

"No! I didn't know it was poisonous!" Loretta blurted out, panic in her voice. 3/3
