“Did you see the news online?”
Geoffrey started a conversation out of nowhere.
“Not me.”
Maureen replied.
Geoffrey stood up and walked to the window: “I know.”
“What else do you want?”
Maureen thought he was here to confront her about Heather.
But Geoffrey didn’t mention it at all, just stared at the falling snow outside and murmured: “It’s snowing
outside.”
It had been snowing constantly lately.
Sitting at home, Maureen glanced out the window upon hearing this-the snow seemed
heavier now.
“Hmm.”
“Want to meet?”
Geoffrey tentatively asked.
“Better not. Nothing important. Bye.”
Maureen refused outright and hung up.
Katherine was organizing documents nearby and asked: “Geoffrey?”
“Hmm.”
“Court’s tomorrow. Why's he calling?”
Maureen shook her head: “No idea. Just toldit’s snowing.

“How strange.”
Katherine resumed her preparations after speaking.

Geoffrey and Maureen's divorce proceedings would surely draw public attention-she needed to stay sharp
tomorrow.
What she didn’t know was that tomorrow held not only Maureen's divorce trial, but also her reunion with her first
love, and the day she'd face him in court.
Before the trial.
Everyone in Karaville knew Geoffrey and Maureen were divorcing.
Sean, Larry, and their crowd were betting on who'd win the divorce case.
“No contest, Geoffrey's taking this,” a playboy declared.
They were all Geoffrey's groupies, practically begging to be his entourage.
Larry chuckled: “My money’s on Maureen.”
“Larry always picks the long shot.”
Nobody batted an eye.
They turned to the distracted Sean: “Sean, who you got?”
“Even need to ask?
Geoffrey, obviously. Mr. Robson hates that deaf girl,” someone cut in.
Sean shot him an icy stare: “Call her that again, | dare
you.”
With Geoffrey absent, he saw no point hiding it anymore.
The sudden intensity silenced the others, killing the joking mood.
Larry took a meaningful sip of his drink, defusing the tension: “Fair point. She is his lawfully wedded wife.”
Murmurs of agreement rippled through the group.
While others drank, Larry slid beside Sean.

“Sean, what's eating you?
Still hung up on that mix-up?”
The mix-up meant that mistaken identity incident with the kid.
Sean forced a smile, drained his glass. “Would 1?”
“I'm just surprised Maureen wants to divorce Geoffrey.”
Guilt had gnawed at him for years, unsure how to repay Maureen's kindness.
That's why he’d picked up the scalpel again, determined to find a cure for her hearing loss.
But before he’d found the answer, she was divorcing Geoffrey. How would she manage alone?
“Life’s unpredictable. Maybe Ms. Ramirez finally realized loving someone who doesn’t love back is exhausting.”
Larry’s words carried hidden meaning.
Sean didn’t dwell on it, refilling their glasses.
Karaville Courthouse.
In the courtroom, Katherine stood beside Maureen in crisp professional attire. Her face turned visibly pale upon
seeing Tyler beside Geoffrey.
That's when Katherine understood Geoffrey's ruthlessness.
He spared no one-not Maureen, not even her friends.
She'd expected his corporate counsel, not her ex-boyfriend Tyler as opposing counsel.
While Katherine flustered, Tyler remained remarkably composed. His gaze remained unreadable as he looked at
her-a stranger now. His deep eyes resembled still water without a ripple.
Maureen had also seen Tyler before, the former top heartthrob of Karaville High, whose striking looks were every
bit Geoffrey's equal.
“Katherine.”
Maureen turned to see Katherine beside her, eyes rimmed red, her forehead glistening with fine sweat, the rosy
flush drained from her face.

Katherine snapped back to reality, forcing a smile at Maureen. “Yeah.”
Maureen quickly grasped her hand.
“It’s okay. I'm here. I've got you.”
She understood why Katherine felt this way.
Had it been her younger self facing Geoffrey in court, she'd have been the same.
When a girl loves someone too deeply, she becomes both fearless and fearful.
Fearless in giving everything, fearful in their presence.
Katherine trembled slightly. “Yeah, it’s fine. We'll win this.”
Maureen gave her shoulder a reassuring pat.
Soon, the trial commenced-a closed-door proceeding.
Though reporters swarmed outside, not a single one could enter.
Online coverage of Geoffrey and Maureen's high-profile divorce case exploded across the internet.
Reporters from major outlets camped outside the courthouse, scrambling for breaking news.
Inside the courtroom, Katherine steadied herself before submitting documentation proving the marriage’s
breakdown to the judge.
She then addressed Geoffrey: “Mr. Sutton, during your three-year marriage to my client, did you ever
consummate the relationship?”
Geoffrey's brow furrowed slightly. “Correct.”
“Mr. Sutton,” Katherine continued, “after marrying, did you deliberately subject my client to emotional neglect
through calculated indifference?”
His
gaze
drifted toward Maureen beside her. “Correct.”
“Mr. Sutton,” Katherine produced photos of Geoffrey with Andrea at a bar, “when your first love Andrea returned,
you started staying out all night. True?”
She'd prepared thoroughly-even facing Tyler as opposing counsel, she'd ensure her friend didn’t lose. Though
uncertain whether Geoffrey spent nights with Andrea, the phrasing

“staying out all night” would make the jury assume
precisely that.
