Chapter 1567:
“Isn’t that better?” Ellis asked, his tone so casually indifferent it was nearly impossible to read what he really felt.
“One more person to care for and guide my daughter? Sounds perfect to me.”
Jesse stared at him, speechless. He got up, about ready to walk away. His dad’s way of thinking was clearly not
from this planet.
“He still has feelings for Mom. You know that, right?” Jesse said as he turned.
“Kids don’t need to meddle in grown-up business.” Ellis offered the advice with a pointed look, silently musing
that kids who grew up too fast weren't always a blessing. “Don’t bring this up with your mom.”
Freya wasn’t quick to catch on when it cto emotional stuff. As long as nothing was too in-your-face, it flew
right past her.
“I know,” Jesse mumbled. He started to walk off.
“Wait,” Ellis called out to him.
Jesse turned back.
Ellis walked over, looking down at his unusually perceptive son. “How do you know he still has feelings for your
mom?”
It didn’t cas a shock that Ellis had picked up on it—he was perceptive, after all—but Jesse was just a kid. He
had gone straight upstairs after returning last night. There shouldn't have been any way for him to know.

someone who was interested in him. | heard him say he used to love Mom, still does, and always will.”
“Hmm. Just like me,” Ellis replied offhandedly.
Jesse blinked. His face was a mix of confusion and disbelief. Wasn't a normal person supposed to get jealous or
something after hearing that?
“Are you sure you're mentally sound?” Jesse asked bluntly.
“Isn't it normal to always love your mom?” Ellis retorted, ruffling his son’s hair. “Focus on school, not stuff that
doesn’t concern you.”
Jesse frowned and swatted his father’s hand away.

Ellis tapped him lightly on the forehead, saying no more.
Later that day, Kristian stayed back to play with Nina until he got a call from Melinda in the late afternoon and
had to leave.
Nina was disappointed. “Can’t you stay a little longer?”
“I'll be back in a few days to play with you again.” Kristian gently brushed her hair back, his voice warm.
Still, Nina looked completely downcast.
Kristian tried to cheer her up a little more before heading off.
As she stood staring at the car long after it had disappeared from view, Jesse stood beside her and said, “Let's
go. It's homework time.”
“Seriously, Jesse?” Nina shot him a glare. “Can’t you see I'm sad?”
“So?” Jesse raised an eyebrow.
