Chapter 1592:
Jacob froze, his gaze locking in place, his body tense. “What are you talking about?”
“You really don’t know?” Ellis raised a brow, visibly surprised.
A chill swept over Jacob like a gust of icy wind, and the usual composure on his face gave way to a flicker of
unease. “What am | supposed to know?”
“Lawrence was in a car crash a couple of days ago. He's still in the ICU,” Freya said, explaining what she knew.
“The doctor said that if he doesn’t wake up in the next two days, he might not survive.”
Those words struck Jacob hard.
His thoughts scattered, his mind turning blank, and a sharp ache spread from deep within his chest.
“You really had no idea?” Freya looked just as taken aback.
Usually, if anything ever happened to Lawrence, Jacob would be the first person to find out.
Forget the nature of their relationship—his expertise alone would make him the obvious contact.
“What hospital is he in?” Jacob shot up from his seat, a storm stirring in his chest for the first tin a long
while.
Freya and Ellis gave him the address.
With a quick word of thanks, Jacob grabbed his car keys and strode out.
Freya watched the way he moved—rushed, disoriented. Something about his whole demeanor unsettled her.
“Did they have a fight?” She wasn’t too clear on what had gone down between Jacob and Lawrence, just that

Over the years, Lawrence had clung to Jacob with unwavering persistence. They were seen together at
practically every important function. How had it cto this?
“Judging from how shaken Jacob looked, | don’t think it was just spetty fight,” Ellis muttered, his eyes still
fixed on Jacob's retreating figure. “It felt more like a complete breakup.”
Freya blinked. A complete breakup?

Jacob’s mind was a tangled mess. The fact that Lawrence had been in an accident days ago—and he hadn't
heard a word—gnawed at his conscience.
If he hadn't said those things, maybe Lawrence wouldn't have left. And if he hadn't left, he wouldn't have been
in that car. The more he turned it over in his head, the more unbearable the guilt became.

“I'm sorry, but there's no patient by that nhere,” the nurse said, flat and expressionless.
Jacob's brows knit together. That couldn't be right. Freya and Ellis wouldn't lie—not about this.
