Chapter 1596:
Jacob's heart skipped a beat.
“There's that intersection near your house,” Lawrence continued, his voice steady.
“A car blocked my view in the mirror. When | signaled, a huge truck cout of nowhere. | swear, my heart
stopped.”
That spot was notorious for accidents, its blind corners a constant danger. If Lawrence hadn't reacted fast, he
might not be standing here. Jacob wanted to yell, but the words wouldn't come. He was just relieved, deep down,
that Lawrence was okay. If something had happened...
“Can we just talk?” Lawrence asked, his tone softer, more open than when he spoke to others. “No more games,
just the truth.”
Jacob pushed him aside and stormed out with his things.
Lawrence trailed close behind. One was cold as ice, the other grinning like a kid. Kristian, seeing Lawrence
unscathed, raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Jacob climbed into his car. As soon as he started it, Lawrence hopped into the passenger seat, still smiling.
“Get out,” Jacob growled, still stung by the deception.
He'd been genuinely worried, racking his brain for ways to help Lawrence heal, regretting the harsh words he'd
said that day.
“I'm too shaken up to drive,” Lawrence said, playing up a pitiful look. “You wouldn't kickout, would you?”
Jacob shot him a cold glance but stayed silent.

“You care about me, don’t you?” Lawrence pressed, leaning closer when Jacob didn’t kick him out.
Jacob stared straight ahead, his lips tight.

Lawrence inched closer still. “Can we just be honest about how we feel?”
Jacob's heart was a storm, but he said nothing.
He couldn’t deny it—the feelings he thought he'd buried had grown back, stronger than ever, like a tree too big
to ignore. But that tree had cracks, and Jacob couldn't look past them.
“I know what's holding you back,” Lawrence said, his voice steady and sincere.
“When we get home, can we just lay it all out?”
Jacob stayed quiet, his hands steady on the wheel as he drove.

“I'm exhausted,” Jacob muttered, brushing past Lawrence and heading upstairs.
Lawrence called after him, his voice tinged with worry. “If | walk away hurt this time, aren’t you scared
