“Do you know when the Captain's coming back?” Freya asked, her voice cool and even.

“Seriously? You have no idea?” Freya pressed, her tone edged with disbelief.
“Really no idea,” Trent said truthfully. “He just said he'd be back sometime, didn’t give a proper tframe.”
Freya fell silent.
No wonder, during their last phone call, the Captain insisted they'd talk face-to-face.
Trent started to speculate aloud. “Did you do something wrong?”
Freya was stunned into silence. Why did everyone react like this? “No,” she replied firmly. “If he tells you when
he’s coming back, givea heads-up so | can be ready.”
“Ready to bolt?” Trent's deep voice rumbled through the phone.
Freya said nothing.
