Chapter 2745 The Partisan Guards
Matthew had only made a fleeting appearance at night, so many in Seraphis knew of his reputation but had
never seen him in person. His current attire, which set him apart from the crowd, made it easy for people to
underestimate him.
A middle-aged woman noticed Matthew's silence and promptly summoned the castle guards. "Your servants truly
lack manners!" she exclaimed.
Several guards approached the woman with due respect.
"Mrs. Farley, what brings you here? The captain is currently on patrol. I'll fetch him."
This woman was Winona, the wife of Captain Gadel. The guards, who served under the captain, naturally
accorded her due respect. Just as one of them was about to inform the captain, Winona stopped him. "There's no
need for that. The prince's safety is paramount. You gentlemen, helpremove this insolent individual. He's a
nuisance."
She looked at Matthew with undisguised disdain and contempt. Today, she had crossed swords with Matthew.
How dare a mere servant disregard her?
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe guards knew Winona was not to be taken lightly. Even their captain had been entirely subdued by her.
Compared to her, the young man before them, dressed modestly and of average demeanor, was an easy target.
"Excuse me, Sir. Could you please present your invitation?"
They knew everyone in the castle and were aware that the young man was not a gardener. But even if he was a
guest, they could handle him as they were the prince's guards.
Matthew's face softened when he heard this. "Why should 1? Why don't you ask the impolite woman to present
hers? Do | appear to be an easy target?"
He could tell from their conversation that this woman had ssway over the guards, which was why they were
so blatantly biased.
Winona's face contorted when she heard Matthew's words. "You impudent boy, mind your language. How dare
you callimpolite. What are you waiting for? Remove him."
The guards were in a quandary. There were many guests present, and if they ejected someone without knowing
the full story, it would reflect poorly on them. However, if they didn't act, the formidable woman before them
would be even more difficult to handle.
Considering this, the guards adopted a stern demeanor.
"Sir, this is our captain's wife. We are well aware that she doesn't need an invitation.
Now, please present your invitation, or we will be forced to take action!"
Matthew assessed their stance. If he didn't comply, they would likely resort to force.
Winona's face lit up with a smug expression after being flattered by the guards. She smirked at Matthew coldly,
eager to see him embarrass himself.
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Oh? I'm intrigued to see how you plan to take action. I'm curious about Prince
Gadel's method of entertaining guests."
The guards didn't anticipate the young man's obstinacy. Initially, they just wanted Matthew to present the
invitation, which would have preserved the captain's wife's dignity. But now, with so many guests watching, they
found themselves in a predicament. After exchanging glances, the guards nodded to each other.
"Sir, since you refuse to cooperate, we have no choice but to resort to drastic measures. As members of His
Highness' guard, we suspect that you intend to infiltrate the banquet and harm His Highness. Please cwith
us!"
Matthew chuckled at their solemn expressions. "Putting on a show, are we? You're merely trying to salvage your
captain's wife's dignity, right? There's no need for pretense. | wouldn't attend this banquet even if you implored
me. Farewell!"
With that, he casually put his hands in his pockets and sauntered away.
