Chapter 144
Thad already assembled a support group of eyewitnesses, and this was what he pulled off again?!
| had to inform them not to show up in court tomorrow until further notice.
The women were very patient with this last-minute cancellation-after all, they were here for the 60% discount on
all Edwardian Tailor products. They even reassuredthat they were at my every beck and call.
Nonetheless, | wasn’t going to just let Edward bid his sweet time.
After a night of consideration, | decided to pay that dickhead a visit. | figured he'd be looking for the sdoctor
who had helped him recover back then.
And | was right.
Edith and Sally were stunned to see me.
Edith wasted no traising her voice, “What the hell are you doing here?! Are you really coming here to drag
him to court for your selfish request?!”

“What's his illness now?” | asked straight away.
“What's your business?”
“I'm interested in knowing when he'll finally get better so we can get this divorce over with. | hate getting that
shit dragged out,” | replied.
“You... You heartless monster! You're an ass to both your family and the man you were with for six years! Edward
had to be blind to stay with you for that long!” Edith barked.
My patience was running low. | was about to shove her out of my way and march to the ward when Sally stopped
me. “Not now, Taylor. He's asleep.”
| stopped and turned.
“Edward's condition is similar to the one he had back then. It's ssort of autoimmune disease,” she
explained. “The doctor is still trying to pinpoint exactly what it is, but he has sprescriptions to follow.
Nothing exhausting or that could rile him up. That's why | decided to postpone the session.”
Her explanation stirred complicated feelings in me. Was my suspicion right?
“How long is he gonna take?” | asked.
“No idea. He's depressed-and that’s slowing his recovery.” Sally approachedwith a pleading expression. ”
Please, Taylor. You and Edward are already civil partners. Why can’t this arrangement just go on? Why do you
insist on making things so difficult?”
| stepped away, unfazed. “Oh, so you're worried that his old condition is coming back. He'll need a blood bank
again, right? I'm gonna be really useful to you two for a very specific reason soon, huh?”
“Excuse you?! You make it sound like Ed will die without you!” Edith snapped.
“Where's the lie? Why else won't any of you agree to the divorce?” | rebuked.
Edith opened her mouth, but despite her rage, she couldn’t cup with a retort.1
Then, a languid, tired voice cfrom the ward. “Let her in, Mom.”

Sally turned to the door, instantly alert. “Ed!”
1 peeked through the crack and saw him sitting up.
Well, if he was conscious, | might as well go for a direct confrontation.
| stepped into the room and studied him. He looked worse for wear-no doubt about it. His frhad grown thin,
his skin was pale, and he appeared utterly pathetic, just as he had a few years ago.
“Sorry for interrupting your recovery, but we can’t drag this out any longer. If you can’t attend court like this,
then let's do it the easy way. We sign the annulment form, show it to the City Clerk, and it'll all be done in
minutes,” | reasoned.
| pulled the form from my bag and handed it to him.
The air was thick with silence.
Edward leaned his head against the headboard, studyingwith tired, sad eyes. Then, he looked at the form. 1
Before he could react, Edith stepped forward and snatched it away.
