| laughed, trying to sound calm as | changed the subject. “You're overthinking it. He and | are from two different
worlds, but he'd be a good friend to have around.”
But the moment | hung up, my mind raced, and a sense of disappointment crept in.
When Soren textedthat night, | told him | was busy at work and ended the conversation quickly.
Jamie had invitedto a company retreat they'd organized over the weekend.
Since it was already the end of the year and my staff had worked hard, | figured it was tfor all of us to take a
break and have sfun.
| didn’t want to be a party pooper, so | decided to join in.
The retreat was a two-day, one-night trip to an outdoor training camp in the mountains. We would hike in the
morning and have a campfire at night.
As soon as we arrived and | stepped off the bus, | got a call from Soren.

it when we were chatting last night.”
| was taken aback, my cheeks flushing with guilt and embarrassment.

Everything was going well at first, but when we reached a steep section, Cherry lost her footing and nearly fell.
Thanks to my quick reflexes, | reached out to grab her. In doing so, though, | slipped on spebbles and lost
my balance!
| fell forward, my knees slamming against a rock. The pain was so intense that both my legs went numb for a
moment, and | lost consciousness.
Cherry was frantic, rushing to helpup as soon as she regained her composure. “Tay-Tay! Are you okay?!” But
| was in so much pain that | couldn’t make any sudden movements...
