Chapter 285
“What?”
| stared at him in shock. “Your company is behind these drones?”
“Yeah. Well, they aren't the best we've got. The best were already rented by an oil baron from abroad at a high
price. So this is the best we have for the night,” he replied placidly, as if there was nothing impressive about any
of it.
| was beyond stunned. No wonder he was this wealthy.
We reached the restaurant at the topmost platform. It was the perfect blend of class and merriment, its diners
draped in luxury and smiles.
Soleil practically leaped at me. “Finally, you're here! God, | wanted to see you for days, but Ren wouldn't let me!
He said I'd only disturb your rest! How are your knees?”
| lifted one slightly, smiling. “Getting better. As long as | don’t hop around.”

“Good evening, Miss Jones,” Richard greeted from the side, a glass of champagne in hand.
He glanced at Soren and teased, “I thought you were gonna skip out this time. Who knows? You might have
wanted to spend the night with just one.”
Soren shota glance. “Well, we'll have plenty of tfor that in the future. But a New Year's countdown?
That's an annual event. | wouldn't miss it.”
Warmth crept into my cheeks. Everyone seemed to treat us as an item. There was nothing | could say to
disprove it now, was there?
Soleil looped her arm through mine and raised an eyebrow. “There's gonna be a very important ‘event’ later. No
way anyone should miss it!”
| shivered. “What do you mean?”
“You'll see. Con, let's get something to eat!”
| had a feeling about this. Soren had definitely planned something for the occasion...
| quickly realized the entire restaurant had been reserved. There were only about 20-odd people inside, all of
them attendees from Lisbeth’s birthday party. Quite a few were even my new clients. | supposed that made us
acquaintances.
Seeing Soren and | arrive together didn’t surprise anyone. They simply smiled atwithout question. They were
cordial, but I could tell it was because of Soren.
The ball had begun. A young man invited Soleil to dance. With my injuries, | could only watch from the sidelines.
Richard had stolen Soren away early on to introduce him to a group of sharp-eyed young intellectuals. He must
have noticed how alone | was, though, because he soon reappeared.
“You doing alright?” he asked. “There’ll be more drone light shows and fireworks later. You'll love it.”
| smiled. “Oh, I'm not bored. | like enjoying my food in my little quiet corner.”
“But | chere with you. So | want to keep you company, he said. “I was catching up with sfriends who'd
been abroad for more than half a year. That's why | was gone for so long.”
He took my hand. “Con. They'd love to meet you too.”

| hesitated. “Is that necessary?”
“Of course. They're your potential clients. They also brought their girlfriends.”
Before | could protest, he was already leadingtoward them.
| could no longer suppress my curiosity.
“I don’t get it. You could easily win the heart of a foreign princess with everything you've got, so why are you so
fixated on a simple dressmaker? And why go out of your way to turn your acquaintances into my clients?” |
asked aloud. “Won't your friends find it weird?”
Soren met my eyes. “No, they won't. Because they trust my judgment. Even if they don’t understand why I've
taken a liking to something-or someone-they know I'm never wrong.”
