“| can’t drive. | had swine earlier,” he said. “But my driver's ready. I'll have him take you to the hospital.”

Soren was down to just a shirt. It was cold outside, and | started to worry about where to get him a coat. Then,
just as | was about to speak up, Candy stepped out of the elevator.
She walked toward us quickly.
“Soren! It's freezing out there! Here, take this. | just bought it from a premium store,” she said, handing him the
coat hanging over her arm.
| was surprised by her quick thinking-though | hadn’t known she was here. The way she had the perfect coat
ready for him madefeel like a bumbling girlfriend who was more trouble than help.
Soren didn’t take it. “It's fine, Miss Frieze.”
“Con, Soren. This isn’t the tfor false modesty! It's freezing outside-you can’t go out like this!” she
insisted, thrusting the coat into my hands. “Talk to him, Taylor! Don’t let him catch a cold!”
| was taken aback by her boldness, but | didn’t refuse the gift. In fact, | was grateful. | spread the coat wide and
said, “Alright, put it on. It's cold outside.”
Soren stared at me. “It's just a few steps.”
