Chapter 221 Sean turned slowly, his gaze gentle as it settled on Claire. The amber glow from the bedside lamp cast warm shadows on his chiseled jawline, and his Adam's apple moved subtly as he whispered, "Get ssleep." Claire, nestled under the down comforter, shivered slightly, a translucent blush spreading across her cheeks in the soft light. Her fingers, gripping the edge of the blanket, turned pale, but her eyes clung to Sean's retreating figure like vines.

"Mr. Foster..." Claire suddenly called out.

Sean paused and turned, the shadows in the hallway slicing across half his face. His loosely buttoned shirt revealed a glimpse of his collarbone, its cool sheen like a hidden jewel in the dim light.

"What is it?" The air, once fragrant and fluid, seemed to suspend around them. Claire watched him, feeling an inexplicable allure.

After a moment's hesitation, she asked, "Why are you so kind to me?" This question had lingered in her heart for a long time, and she finally couldn't hold it in any longer.

Sean was momentarily taken aback, but then a faint smile curved his lips.

He walked back to the bed, sat beside her, and the mattress dipped gently, causing Claire to hold her breath.

He murmured something in French, his voice like the low hum of a cello. "Parce que je veux t'épouser." The words were like a melody, brushing softly past her ears.

Claire's pupils contracted, and she watched his lips move in the warm light, glistening with a rosy sheen. She swallowed the bitterness in her throat, not understanding what he had said.

Still, she tried to smile gently, not wanting to reveal any confusion.

Sean noticed the fleeting tension on her face.

Staring at her fluttering eyelashes casting shadows beneath her eyes, he chuckled softly, "Will you?" This she understood-he was asking if she would agree. But what had he said before? She had no idea.

It seemed her lip-reading skills needed improvement.

Fortunately, Mr. Foster hadn't discovered her hearing loss.

She had already troubled Mr. Foster and Grandma too much and didn't want to cause more worry over her condition.

Even though she didn't know what he had said, she trusted that Mr. Foster would never harm her.

So, she quickly beamed, "I will." Outside the large window, a sudden clap of thunder illuminated the night, casting shadows of turmoil in Sean's eyes.

How could she trust so easily? As innocent as a charming little rabbit.

What he had said was, "Because I want to marry you." Whether she understood or not, she had already agreed.

That meant his proposal was a success.

This realization put Sean in an excellent mood.

He turned off the light, enveloping the room in a cozy darkness.

With steady steps, he descended the stairs, only to be met by three pairs of eager eyes in the living room. Aberdeen grinned from ear to ear. "Sean, where's Claire?" "She's asleep." "What did you two do in there?" Sean replied with an unusual calmness, "Not much, just proposed to her, and she said yes." "Pro...proposed?" Aberdeen's eyes widened in shock, her mouth agape. The news was so sudden she struggled to process it.

"How did you propose?" "I simply asked if she would marry me, and she said yes." Aberdeen was at a loss for words.

Grace and May listened, their faces reflecting a mix of surprise and amusement.

That proposal was incredibly straightforward! No flowers, no m ring-nothing but Sean's straightforward question.

May felt a pang in her heart, knowing how much pain Claire had endured. She longed for love so deeply that when she encountered a family like the Fosters, she accepted the simple proposal without hesitation. Nevertheless, May felt happy for her. After all, Claire had finally found her happiness.

Aberdeen, however, thought differently.

Claire was the daughter-in-law she had set her heart on, and such an important moment shouldn't be so modest.

She shot a reproachful look at the unromantic Sean, thinking to herself that only Claire would agree so readily; any other woman might not have been so easily convinced.
