Chapter 294 In an instant, sunlight streamed through the open doorway, spilling across her like a silent summons, beckoning her toward hope.

A flicker of relief flashed across Vanessa's face, as if she could finally escape the looming danger.

But the moment she saw the man standing in the doorway, her smile froze. Terror drained all color from her eyes.

A slender, gleaming blade caught the light as the man used it to lift Vanessa's chin, forcing her to stumble backward, step by step.

As she retreated, the man with the knife finally cfully into view.

He was tall and broad-shouldered, the cut of his black suit accentuating his lean waist and long legs. His expression was cold and unreadable, but it was his eyes that chilled the room-hard, battle-worn, as if he'd seen more blood than most could imagine.

It was Jeffry.

"Get back," he ordered, his voice cool and sharp as a gunshot, striking straight at Vanessa's heart.

Her pupils dilated. She stiffly turned around and, unwillingly, walked back to stand beside Sophia and Garnett Brown.

Nathan watched the scene unfold, feeling his hopes sink. Vanessa's instinctive reaction made it painfully clear that her true allegiance was with the driver, Garnett Brown.

As arguments simmered around them, Brian turned to Claire, his face twisted in agony. Suddenly, his knees buckled, and he collapsed to the floor with a loud thud, tears streaming down his face.

"Claire, I'm so sorry," he choked out.

Claire's face stayed utterly calm, her silence more devastating than any outburst.

That unshakable composure told Brian she'd given up on him completely-he no longer meant anything to her. Realizing this, his body trembled on the verge of collapse.

"Claire, I'll do anything to make it right. I'll atone, I'll pay you back—if you need a kidney, I'll give it to you. Just please... don't shutout," Brian begged, sobbing uncontrollably.

But Claire only looked away, unmoved by his desperate pleas.

She refused to let his words touch her. To Claire, his apologies were nothing but empty noise-meaningless and weightless.

Seeing that she wouldn't budge, Brian lost all control. He began slamming his forehead against the floor, again and again, the dull thud echoing through the tense room.

Soon, his forehead split open, blood trickling down his face.

Jarrod Karin, unable to watch any longer, turned away.

Irene, however, let out a cold laugh. "Brian, don't you look familiar like this? Isn't this exactly how you forced Claire to kneel at my bedside, begging for forgiveness?" Brian's head snapped up, disbelief etched on his bloodied face.

Irene's voice was icy. "That's right. I may have been unconscious then, but I was aware of everything. I know exactly what you did to Claire these past five years." "You know, every tyou talked about Claire's miserable tin prison while you sat by my bed doing nothing to help her, it felt like you were rubbing salt in my wounds." "All this-Vanessa should have borne it, not Claire." "You were cruel to Claire and indulgent to Vanessa. What right do you have to say you ever loved Claire?" "You don't deserve her. Not now, not ever." "You brought this on yourself, Brian. You have no one else to blame."

Brian felt the world spinning.

Darkness closed in on his vision and, unable to stay upright, he collapsed heavily to the floor. Jarrod Karin made a move to help him but, remembering Irene's words, clenched his fists and held back.

Their hatred now focused squarely on Vanessa and her allies.

The living room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence that lasted until Victor stormed back in, DNA test results in hand. He marched straight up to Nathan and slapped the papers against his chest. "There. Now will you finally face the truth?" There were two reports-one for Vanessa and Nathan, another for Vanessa and Garnett Brown.

Nathan's hands shook as he picked them up, reading every word with mounting dread.

All his hopes dissolved in a heartbeat.

The results were clear: there was no blood relation between Vanessa and Nathan. Garnett Brown was her biological father.

The revelation hit Nathan like a bolt from the blue, so devastating that his body seemed to collapse in on itself, paralyzed by shock. At that very moment, Adah-who had been unconscious all this time-slowly began to open her eyes.
