Chapter 306 Ethan wanted to run from it all, but when he caught Irene's icy stare, sunseen force drew him toward her.

Separated by a thick pane of glass, they both picked up the phones on either side.

For a long moment, the room was so quiet it was suffocating. Neither of them spoke.

Finally, Irene broke the silence. "Speechless now that you've seen me? Didn't expect this, did you?" Ethan dropped his gaze, his eyes empty and unfocused.

His guilt-ridden, defeated look didn't stir even a hint of pity in Irene. If anything, it only made her see him as a coward through and through.

"Isn't there anything you want to ask me?" Summoning what little courage he had left, Ethan finally met Irene's eyes. His lips moved soundlessly for a while as he struggled to find the words. "I already know the truth," he managed at last, voice barely above a whisper. Irene let out a cold, humorless laugh. "You know? Please. You don't know a damn thing." Ethan frowned, sensing there was more beneath her words.

And then, Irene laid it all out-every detail of what really happened five years ago. From how Sophia deceived Nathan, to how Nathan dumped Claire in an orphanage, and why, after fifteen years, he suddenly decided to bring her back. Every grim detail, nothing held back.

By the tshe finished, Ethan's hands were balled into fists, knuckles white. He slammed them against the glass and shouted at her, his voice raw, "Lies! You're lying! You're trying to trick me!" "Trick you? You're already in prison, Ethan. Why would I bother lying to you?" She stared at him, voice flat and unyielding. "I chere today so you'd finally know the truth. After everything you did to Claire, you deserve to hear it. You hurt your own sister over and over again for Vanessa's sake-do you regret it now?" Regret didn't even begin to cover what Ethan felt.

His heart ached so sharply it was hard to breathe. Until now, he'd convinced himself that maybe, just maybe, all that happened five years ago was just an accident-Vanessa pushing Irene down the stairs and being too scared to admit it.

But he had never imagined the real truth: that Vanessa and his father, Nathan, had plotted together to take Claire's kidney, to use her body for organ donation, and, in the end, to hand her over as a cadaver for medical students.

If Irene hadn't overheard their plan by chance, Claire would have died five years ago.

And even though Claire survived, she was framed, took the fall for someone else, and spent five years in prison- beaten, abused, and left with permanent injuries.

"How... how could this be?" "No. I don't believe it. You're saying all this just to hurt me, aren't you?" Ethan was unraveling, pounding the glass, his eyes wild and bloodshot-like a caged lion gone mad.

Irene sat perfectly still in her wheelchair, watching his meltdown with chilling composure.

With a furious roar, Ethan slammed his head against the glass.

Two guards rushed in, trying to restrain him.

"Letgo!" Ethan howled, still staring desperately at Irene. "Go find Claire! I need to see her-I need to ask her myself-!"

Irene's lips curled into a cold sneer.

"Claire will never agree to see youn Ethan. Now it's your turn to experie experience everything you put her through in here." With that, she hung up the phone and wheeled herself away without a backward glance.

Ethan's eyes widened in panic. "Irene, don't go! I need to see Claire-!" But Irene disappeared from view, never once looking back.

Ethan collapsed to the floor, his body shaking. He muttered over and over, "No... It can't be... You're lying..." Tears streamed down his face, unstoppable.

"Claire, I'm sorry. Please... just one more chance. When I get outd m promise I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to you..."

He wept and begged for forgiveness, unaware that by the the the finally walked free Claire would already be gone from his life forever.
