Chapter 356 She hurled the nastiest insults, every word more venomous than the last-so filthy that it made everyone flinch.

Claire tried to fight back, but Mac Brown-the bloated pig of a man-had her pinned.

A few minutes earlier, Claire had slapped him hard, six times in a row, and Mac hadn't forgotten it for a second. Now, seeing Claire getting smacked around, he was secretly delighted, a smug grin plastered across his face.

Who did this stuck-up little nobody think she was? He was a millionaire-so what if he wanted a little fun? Claire had nothing, not a dto her name, and a criminal record to boot. He was doing her a favor by letting her serve him. The fact that she dared to act so pure-she deserved every slap.

With Mac's heavy arm holding her down, Claire couldn't budge. Scarlet swung her handbag, smashing it blindly into Claire's face, the blows so vicious that blood welled up in thin red lines across her cheeks.

May's eyes went bloodshot at the sight.

"My Ms. Claire's fiancé is the CEO of Foster & Co. If you don't want to answer for this, you'd better stop. Right now." Scarlet froze, her hand in midair.

Everyone else stared, momentarily speechless-not because May's words had cowed them, but because it sounded completely absurd.

A beat of stunned silence, then the whole room erupted into raucous, deafening laughter, the sound so wild it seemed like it might blow the roof off.

"If Claire's really engaged to the CEO of Foster & Co., I'll eat my own shoes," someone jeered.

"Mr. Foster is worth billions-why would he ever look at a nobody with a rap sheet? You really think you're skind of angel cdown to earth?" "Yeah, get a grip, sweetheart. Take a good look in the mirror next time." They kept at it, mocking Claire relentlessly. The laughter went on and on, finally petering out.

Asher cleared his throat loudly, putting on an air of fake concern. "Con, we're all old classmates. Let's talk this out, okay?" Scarlet shot Asher a glare. "What's your problem, Asher? You got a thing for her or something? Been sneaking around behind our backs?" He shook his head so hard it looked like it might fall off. "No way, absolutely not. I'd never be into her. I'm just saying, since we all went to school together, maybe don't go overboard. But hey, if you want to teach her a lesson, go right ahead. I won't stop you." Scarlet, emboldened by Asher's words, raised her hand to slap Claire again. But a woman in a red dress stepped in, blocking her.

"Don't bother dirtying your hand on her," she sneered. "I've got a cake over here. Why not use that?" "Great idea!" someone cheered. The rest quickly chimed in, eager for the spectacle.

In a flash, the room was in chaos. People snatched up slices of cake from the table and flung them at Claire.

Chunk after chunk of creamy cake slammed into her. The thick frosting smeared over her eyes, clogged her nose and mouth, making it almost impossible to breathe.

Fruit filling splattered everywhere, staining her once-white dress a sticky red. Her hair was a tangled, sticky mess, matted with globs of cake and icing.

May screamed in fury, her voice raw and hoarse, but in the chaos, her cries were drowned out.

Someone had shoved her face down onto the table, pinning her so hard she could only turn her head sideways, helplessly watching Claire suffer.

Tears streamed down May's cheeks, splashing onto the tabletop.

"Stop it! Stop it, all of you-" she screamed, her voice breaking, but the oply answer was more laughter and another barrage of cake.

"Look at her! What a mess-this is priceless!" someone howled.

"Yeah, let's see her act all high and mighty now!"

The laughter kept coming, the cake kept flying. There wasn't a clean inch left on Claire who stood there trembling, humiliation and rage twisting inside her like a knife. Then-suddenly-the door to the private room crashed open with a deafening bang.

The sound froze everyone in place, hands and arms suspended in mid-throw.

May struggled to lift her head. When she saw who'd just walked in her eyes lit up with a flicker of hope.
